Three people were injured in a collision in front of the Kwik Serv gas station on Carlson Boulevard following a pursuit by the Contra Costa Sheriff Saturday morning.

Images of the dramatic crash scene were shared across social media. They showed a white truck that collided with a utility pole and left a debris field of broken concrete from a bus stop and garbage can.

Richmond Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Donald Patchin said the Contra Costa Sheriff initiated the pursuit but did not know if deputies were still actively pursuing the vehicle when it was involved in the collision.

“The parties in the vehicle that was struck sustained moderate injuries and RPD is investigating the collision portion of the incident,”  Patchin said. “Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is handling the rest of the investigation.”

The Sheriff's Office has not responded to requests for more information.

Unconfirmed police scanner traffic indicates that a Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the driver of a stolen white 2013 GMC Sierra pickup in Richmond at approximately 9:52 a.m. The driver reportedly fled from the area near Cutting and Carlson Boulevards, heading southbound on Carlson Boulevard at speeds of up to 90 mph.

The previous Saturday evening, the San Pablo Police pursued a stolen vehicle that ended in a Richmond collision that injured two people and resulted in the arrest of a San Francisco woman.
