Suspect arrested after 15th Street shooting incident

A suspect was arrested Friday night after allegedly firing a gun during a dispute over money, authorities said.

Richmond officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 200 block of 15th Street at 8:24 p.m., according to Lt. Donald Patchin, public information officer for the Richmond Police Department.

“Officers responded and located a victim who reported being shot at,” Patchin said. “The victim reported arguing with an acquaintance who owed them money. The argument became heated, and the other party produced a firearm and fired at the victim. The victim was not struck, but a vehicle was.”

Police identified a probable location for the suspect in the 1500 block of 15th Street and found the individual outside the residence. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

“A search warrant was authorized, and officers searched the home, locating firearms and ammunition, along with expelled shell casings from the shooting. The suspect was booked for firearms violations and assault with a deadly weapon,” Patchin said.
