Xfinity service has been restored after fiber cables were cut over the weekend, knocking out service for thousands of Richmond residents.

Comcast spokesperson Jon Koriel said vandals in Richmond damaged Comcast fiber cables, taking down services for many of our customers in the area on Sunday.

“Unfortunately, yesterday’s vandalism incident is one of several occurrences that has happened this year,” Koriel said. Comcast technicians were on site for most of the day and began working immediately to restore services to our customers—and all services have now been restored.”

Koriel said Comcast is working with local authorities to determine the cause of the repeated incidents and to prevent further acts of vandalism from occurring.

“We understand how unfortunate these service disruptions may be for our customers, and we sincerely regret any challenges or inconveniences these outages may have caused,” Koriel said.

Lynnelle Sanchez,  the Richmond Police Department’s public information officer, said police were informed of a copper theft on Sunday afternoon.

Xfinty's websit3 listed multiple large outages on Sunday, October 28, 2024.

“Dispatch received a call from a reporting party that copper cable had been stolen on the 2500 block of Bissell Avenue,” Sanchez said. “When officers arrived at the location, they were unable to locate the reporting party.”
