Rising temperatures spark Nixle Alert: Tuesday will be hot
The city of Richmond issued a nixie alert Monday afternoon as temperatures began to soar ahead of Tuesday’s expected near 100-degree heat.
The alert said hot and dry weather is expected to continue through Wednesday of this week, with moderate-to-extreme heat risk levels across much of the Bay Area – including here in Richmond.
An excessive heat warning is in effect for much of the region until Wednesday, October 2, at 11 p.m. Inland areas will see temperatures in the mid-100s, and coastal areas will see temperatures in the mid-90s.
No Red Flag Warning has been issued for wildfires; however, hot weather will dry fuels to critical levels, which could lead to easier fire starts.
Prevent heat-related injuries by doing the following:
- Stay hydrated
- Limit sun exposure
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing
- Avoid the hottest part of the day
- Never leave a person or a pet in a parked car
- Give your pets plenty of fresh, clean water
- Take advantage of cooling spaces like libraries, shopping centers or cooling centers when available
