Richmond to resume street sweeping enforcement in April

Many Richmond residents found a small leaflet warning of a parking violation on their cars this morning as the Richmond Police Department prepares to resume street sweeping enforcement next month.
Police said residents may have received a warning notice or have seen the department’s Parking Enforcement Team issuing warnings.
Last year, the Richmond City Council voted to install new no-parking signs, signaling a restart of the street sweep program.

Several residents took to social media to complain about cars on both sides of the street receiving warnings, not just cars that failed to move for the street sweeper.
City crews have also been installing new signs and refreshing older ones to ensure clear visibility of sweeping schedules.
“Even though we aren’t issuing citations, please do the right thing. If you know it’s your street sweeping day, move your car so the street sweeper can do its job, clean the streets, and prevent trash and debris from entering the bay,” the department said.

Officials said formal enforcement would begin once signage installation is complete and residents have been adequately warned. A specific start date will be announced on the city’s social media platforms.
