Richmond Police are investigating two firearm-related incidents early Sunday morning that left one man critically injured and another reporting an assault with a weapon.

The first incident occurred at approximately 5:54 a.m. in the 3100 block of Garrity Way. Officers arrived to find a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he remains,” said Lynnelle Sanchez, Public Information Officer for the Richmond Police Department. “The suspect was detained at the scene, and a firearm was recovered from their possession.”

According to Sanchez, the suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Richmond Police Department jail on charges of attempted murder.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are working to gather all relevant evidence,” Sanchez said. “Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Richmond Police Department.”

Shortly after, at around 6:34 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in the 900 block of 9th Street.

“Officers contacted the victim at a nearby location and observed visible injuries. The victim reported being assaulted multiple times and threatened with a firearm during an altercation with the suspect, who is known to the victim,” Sanchez said.

Officers located the suspect at a residence and recovered a firearm matching the victim’s description.

“The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Richmond Police Department jail for booking,” Sanchez said.
