Richmond police capture suspect following afternoon search in the North and East
Richmond Police took a wanted felon into custody Monday afternoon after conducting a yard-to-yard search in the North and East Neighborhood.
Police said an officer on routine patrol saw a wanted felon drive by him around 2 p.m.
"I’m hiding from police": suspect tells local editor during Richmond police pursuit.
“The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect apparently didn’t want to chat with the officer and fled. A short distance later, the suspect decided it would be wiser to attempt his flight on foot, running into the 3600 block of Garvin Avenue,” police said.
The suspect hopped from backyard to backyard as officers sealed off the area and conducted a yard-to-yard search assisted by two K9 officers, CHP air support, and the Richmond Police Department drone unit.
When Grandview Independent Editor Linda Hemmila told the man fleeing from police to get out of her yard, the man responded he couldn’t because he was hiding from the police.
As the K9 teams zeroed in on the suspect’s location around 4 p.m., he gave up rather than encounter the police dogs.
“We are happy that we could take this suspect into custody without injury to the public or himself. We thank the residents for their patience who were delayed and disturbed by the police activity,” police said.
