■ Monthly Movies At the Magick Lantern Theater December 9, 2023
Yomeddine (2018) Arabic/English Subtitles
1hr 37min Adventure/Comedy/Drama
This is the story of Beshay (non-professional first-time
actor Rady Gamal), a man severely disfigured by leprosy.
Now past middle age, his leprosy is no longer contagious but
the scars, lumps, and twisted hands are forever.
His sense of humor is a constant, and his sense of self-pity is zero.
With tongue in cheek, he calls out, “Greetings, sick people,”
at the flatland dessert dump, ironically named Garbage Mountain.
One day, Obama (first-time actor Ahmed
Abdelhafiz), a ten-year-old Nubian orphan, attaches himself
to Beshay and never leaves.

■ Red Oak Victory's Homefront Movie
Join us on Thursday, December 14 as the National Park Service and Red Oak Victory present one of the best-loved Christmas movies to come out of the World War II era: Christmas in Connecticut. A big city newspaper writer (Barbara Stanwyck) who has created an alter ego as a country homemaker finds herself in hot water when her boss (Sydney Greenstreet) invites a war hero (Dennis Morgan) to her home for the holidays. Board the ship at 6:30 PM, and the movie will start at approximately 7:30. Admission is free, but we suggest a donation of $10, although any amount is appreciated. All donations go toward the maintenance and restoration of Red Oak Victory. Refreshments will also be available for purchase. And be sure to visit the newly remodeled and restocked Ship's Store in Hold No. 4. We have several exciting new items for adults and kids (including the ship's WW II canine mascot "Snafu"), as well as a restock of many of your favorite clothing items.
