

A man was shot and wounded Friday evening just blocks from Grant Elementary School in the city's North & East neighborhood, according to police.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on April 11 just after 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of 26th Street, where they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Lt. Donald Patchin, a spokesperson for the Richmond Police Department.
“The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. Investigators are currently investigating,” Patchin said.
According to neighbors and police calls for service logs, shots were detected in the same location on March 29 at 9:35 p.m.

The Richmond Police Department recorded 20 shooting incidents between January 1 and March 31, according to its 2025 year-to-date shooting report.
The report shows one attempted murder, 11 negligent discharges, six shootings into occupied dwellings or vehicles, and two shootings into unoccupied structures or vehicles.
