Police arrest suspect in Richmond's North and East neighborhood following search
Heavy police activity Monday along Rheem and Maricopa Avenues sparked concern among neighbors who watched as officers combed their neighborhood searching for a suspect while a helicopter hovered overhead.
Police said they were seeking 27-year-old Demarie Doss, who reportedly had several outstanding warrants and was a suspect in an assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, kidnapping, and terrorist threats case.
According to Richmond Police Public Information Officer Lynnelle Sanchez, officers from San Pablo first located him this morning, and he fled from them on foot into the 3400 block of Rheem Avenue. At the time, police had information that he was possibly armed with a firearm, prompting a multi-agency response, including officers from Richmond, San Pablo, and the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office.
Several streets were blocked as officers conducted yard-to-yard searches of the area in an attempt to locate him. After a lengthy search, Doss managed to evade capture.
Officers remained in the area, and a short time after concluding the initial search, Doss was once again seen and fled back into the 3400 block of Rheem Avenue. Another search was conducted, and Doss was eventually located in the rear yard of a residence in the 3400 block of Maricopa Avenue.
He was taken into custody without incident and is currently in the process of being booked into the Richmond PD jail. At the time of his arrest, Doss was unarmed.
