One dead in 21st Street shooting; Richmond Police investigate homicide

Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening in the Belding Woods neighborhood. 

Lynnelle Sanchez, Public Information Officer for the Richmond Police Department, said officers responded to a call reporting a gunshot in the 400 block of 21st Street on Saturday, October 19, at 6:03 p.m. 

“On arrival, officers located a male inside a vehicle who suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased by AMR at approximately 6:15 p.m.,” Sanchez said. 

The victim was shot at least once while sitting in his car, according to police, who said the suspect was also in the vehicle and fled the scene following the shooting.

“Officers have not located a suspect and are currently investigating,” Sanchez said.

Saturday’s homicide marks Richmond’s 11th of the year.
