We’ve crossed the 800-gram line with Tacos Las Palmas’s Super Al Pastor Burrito, the largest burrito we’ve eaten on the Richmond Burrito Trail.

Tacos Las Palmas is a food truck in the Richmond Food Center parking lot at 2230 Cutting Blvd. When we arrived for lunch, several people were already ordering or waiting for their meal, which is always a good sign.

When asked what meat is good, we received a typical response—they’re all good. We went with the Al Pastor because the translation said "Spicy Pork," and we like pork and spicy.

We received a big momma of a burrito. As we headed out of the parking lot, we felt its weight tugging on the plastic bag. At 805 grams, Las Palmas’ Super Al Pastor Burrito bested Taqueria La Bamba’s Super Carnitas Burrito by nearly eight percent.

On the Richmond Burrito Trail: Taqueria La Bamba
It is Taqueria Tuesday! Grandview is back on the Richmond Burrito Trail, chowing down on Super Carnitas Burritos from longtime neighborhood favorite Taqueria La Bamba. This San Pablo Avenue taqueria may be known for its tasty pupusas, those heavenly grilled stuffed cornflour wonders. Pupusas are like a handmade corn tortilla

This super slab had tons of seasoned pork in every bite. We especially liked how the sour cream coated the grains of rice, melded them, and intermixed them with the pork liquor (ok, grease), making for a tasty red creaminess.

Las Palmas’ Super Al Pastor Burrito is the largest burrito yet.

It comes with a little too much sour cream, which provides camouflage for the pico and refried beans. We swore we tasted them, but they must have disappeared into the burrito because we never saw them.

Despite this, the Spanish rice was a little dry, and our slab artist was possibly a little too generous with the rice. Las Palmas’ salsa roja is lovely, herby, and spicy enough to make you sweat. We added a little to kick up the heat and flavor of our slab.

The burrito, which comes with pickled onions, carrots, and peppers, costs $15.87. We were able to finish the burrito and were definitely not left hungry, but we thought maybe we shouldn’t have finished it.

This is the 14th stop on the Richmond Burrito Trail. Let us know where to eat next, and check back next week to see where we land on the Richmond Burrito Trail.

The Grandview Independent has been embarking on a culinary adventure to explore every taqueria, food truck, and restaurant in Richmond. This initiative, dubbed the “Richmond Burrito Trail,” aims to showcase our city’s diverse and delectable burritos.
