On the Richmond Burrito Trail: La Flor de Jalisco’s San Pablo Avenue location
We were hungry. Between a busy day of meetings and breaking news, lunch hour came and went without notice. By mid-afternoon, with our stomachs growling, we dashed to La Flor de Jalisco's food truck.
This week’s stop on the Richmond Burrito Trail is La Flor de Jalisco on San Pablo Avenue, where we can purchase a pair of large, scrumptious slabs. This is the taco truck in the parking lot of El Agave Azul.
We approached La Flor de Jalisco’s North and East spot with some trepidation after a disappointing burrito from their Macdonald Avenue location a few weeks back.
Redemption burrito
We were rewarded with large, tasty Mission Style Burritos, the kind we remember from La Flor de Jalisco of old. The surprisingly good Pollo Super Burrito had an excellent ingredient mix, balanced with large chunks of grilled chicken, refried beans, and well-cooked fluffy rice-not hard and sad like the last time.
Sour cream cheese, onions, and cilantro round out this delicious slab. The chicken itself was nicely caramelized and had a nice smokey flavor. There is no guacamole on a La Flor super burrito, but it is still saucy-good but not soupy-bad.
The Pollo Super Burrito weighed in at a hefty 716 grams, making it one of the larger burritos we’ve found on the Richmond Burrito Trail, but not as large as La Bamba’s 746-gram Super Carnitas monster. Eating the burrito was "not-sure-we-can-move" filling. We finished the burrito—but just barely. The Pollo Super Burrito, a Veggie Super Burrito, chips, and hot salsa cost $30.52.
La Flor de Jalisco food truck predates El Agave Azul restaurant and has been there since the restaurant sign read Gonzalez Mexican Restaurant several years ago.
Let us know where to eat next, and check back next week for another stop on the Richmond Burrito trail.
