Decomposed human remains were discovered at Keller Beach in Richmond on Monday evening, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

According to Dave Mason, Public Information Supervisor for the East Bay Regional District, a park visitor reported the remains at approximately 8:41 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14.

“The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to take possession of the remains. It is an active investigation,” Mason said.

On Tuesday morning, East Bay Regional Park District officers had cordoned off a section of Keller Beach and Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office personnel were also seen investigating a area of the beach.

Officials have not determined whether the remains are male or female, and it is too early to say if foul play was involved. Investigators emphasized there is no threat to public safety at this time.

The investigation remains active, and no further details were immediately available.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
