Chevron cuts 600 jobs at former San Ramon headquarters

Chevron filed a WARN notice with the state of California last week, announcing plans to lay off approximately 600 employees at its former headquarters in San Ramon.

Chevron said the layoffs are part of efforts to streamline its organizational structure, improve efficiency, and enhance the company's long-term competitiveness.

"This means we will have fewer positions and unfortunately, fewer people," Henry Perea, Manager of State Government Affairs at Chevron, wrote in the notice. "In accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act, this letter is to advise that we expect a reduction at our Chevron Lakeside location of approximately 600 employees. The first layoffs subject to WARN will begin June 1, 2025."

In February, Chevron announced plans to lay off up to 20 percent of its company-wide workforce over the next year, possibly including those employed at Richmond's 123-year-old refinery.

Chevron to cut up to 20 percent of workforce by 2026
In an effort to reduce expenses, Chevron announced Wednesday that it will lay off up to 20 percent of its company-wide workforce, potentially including employees at Richmond’s 123-year-old refinery.

Last fall, the company said that it planned to relocate its headquarters from San Ramon, where it has been based for the last twenty-three years, to Houston, Texas, as part of a planned migration of its corporate team out of California.

When asked if the planned layoffs would directly impact employees at the Richmond Refinery, a Chevron spokesperson told Grandview, "We expect fewer positions across the entire company."
