Just after noon, Richmond Fire Department E66 members responded and found a vehicle parked on Esmond Avenue engulfed in flames.

Local photographer Ed Shelden Jr. said the smell of plastic burning was in the air, and that a Richmond Police Department Crime Scene Technician was present at the scene.

"A lot of water and fire retardant was used on the back end of the car," Shelden said. "I heard a big pop from inside the car, and firefighters had a difficult time opening the hood."

According to firefighters, a gasoline leak posed a small challenge, but the fire was extinguished without issue.

Richmond Police are investigating the incident as possibly a stolen vehicle arson.
