Boyfriend suspected in El Portal Drive homicide found dead in Mexico
Richmond Police Department officials have confirmed that Edirlei Tofolio, a person of interest in the stabbing death of 48-year-old Richmond resident Elidenia Da Silva, has been found dead in Mexico.
Lynnelle Sanchez, Richmond Police Department public information officer, said homicide detectives were notified on July 9 that the victim’s boyfriend, Edirlei Tofolio, was located deceased in Mexico.
The victim and alleged perpetrator were from Brazil, and the case was covered heavily in Portuguese-language publications.
Richmond officers received a report of a stabbing in the 3500 block of El Portal Drive on July 4 at 4:22 p.m.
“Officers responded and located an adult female suffering from at least one stab wound, who, unfortunately, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Sanchez said.
Richmond PD homicide detectives responded and took charge of the investigation.
“Homicide detectives determined the victim’s boyfriend, Edirlei Tofolio, was a person of interest in this homicide,” Sanchez said.
