Authorities identify 28-year-old Richmond man as victim of deadly 21st Street shooting

The Contra Costa County Coroner has identified the victim of the October 19 shooting as 28-year-old Richmond resident Geovanni Ortiz Gutierrez.

Lynnelle Sanchez, Public Information Officer for the Richmond Police Department, said police are still investigating the shooting, do not have a suspect in custody, and no arrests have been made related to the case.

On Saturday, October 19, officers responded to a call reporting a gunshot in the 400 block of 21st Street at 6:03 p.m.

Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening in the Belding Woods neighborhood.

“On arrival, officers located a male inside a vehicle who suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased by AMR at approximately 6:15 p.m.,” Sanchez said. 

The victim was shot at least once while sitting in his car, according to police, who said the suspect was also in the vehicle and fled the scene following the shooting.

The homicide is Richmond’s 11th of the year.
